Interest Groups

In Federalist 10, the founders warned us about the threat posed by “factions” to our country’s democracy. In his farewell address, George Washington argued that political parties should be avoided. Despite these warnings, factions have emerged in the American political system in the form of political parties and interest groups.
In your opinion, what effect do interest groups have on the American political systems; positive or negative? Do interest groups give some Americans a louder voice than others? Why do some choose to join interest groups, such as the NRA or the NAACP? What are the advantages of such membership? Are you yourself a member of an interest group, or are you interested in joining a particular interest group?
